💕 Meet Gia 💕
Gia is a beautiful 5-year-old brindle Plott Hound mix who has been through more than any dog should have to—and she’s finally learning what it feels like to be safe.
Gia was found terrified and hiding beneath a semi trailer in the RGV. A team of dedicated rescuers spent time patiently gaining her trust and helping her feel safe enough to come with them. Since then, Gia has continued to make incredible progress in foster care. She’s also had to overcome some unexpected medical hurdles, including complications following her spay, but she is now spayed, up to date on vaccines and preventatives, and ready to focus on the next chapter of her life.
Gia is a sensitive girl who needs a little time to warm up and feel comfortable in new situations. She may not be the dog who immediately runs up to greet everyone, but once she feels safe, she is capable of making the sweetest little strides—and watching her confidence grow is incredibly rewarding.
And lately, she’s been showing us that she’s becoming more curious about the world around her. Gia has started showing an interest in going for walks, even following her foster family toward the door when they head outside. Her foster is taking things slowly and putting a leash on her each time they leave so she can get comfortable with the feeling of it. For now, Gia hangs out on the couch with her leash on while her foster family takes the other dogs out, and then she gets her leash removed when they return.
It may sound like a tiny thing, but for Gia, these are BIG steps. ❤️
Her foster is intentionally keeping things safe and structured rather than simply leaving the door open and hoping Gia decides to follow. With cars, an open door, and multiple dogs to manage, safety comes first. Instead, Gia is learning at a pace that allows her to build confidence without being overwhelmed.
Her perfect home will be calm, patient, kind, and predictable. Gia would do best with other calm and respectful dogs who can give her space and help her feel secure. She would also do best with calm, older kiddos who understand how important it is to respect her boundaries and let her come to them at her own pace.
Gia is looking for people who understand that confidence isn’t built overnight. She needs a family willing to give her time, a structured routine she can count on, and a peaceful environment where she can continue learning that the world isn’t such a scary place.
She doesn’t need perfection. She just needs patience, consistency, kindness, and someone who will never give up on her.
We know there is a happy-ever-after out there for this sweet girl—one where Gia can finally exhale, feel safe, build her confidence, and truly thrive.
