James is a young shepherd mix (about 1 year old) with a truly incredible story of resilience and heart. He came to us from the Rio Grande Valley after being found alone on a rural road, severely injured and underweight. He had parasites, an open wound, and significant trauma to his left leg and hip, likely from being hit by a car. Even in that condition, James met the world with a gentle, loving spirit that never faded.
James has recently undergone his second FHO surgery (as of April 20, 2026) and is now in the early stages of recovery. His healing journey is expected to take approximately 8–12 weeks, and he continues to show us just how strong and determined he is every step of the way. While his back left leg may never fully regain normal function due to the severity of his injuries, James doesn’t let it define him. He is still happy, social, and full of life.
James has spent time in multiple temporary foster homes, and each one has come back with the same message: he is an amazing dog. He settles in quickly, loves being part of a home, and bonds deeply with his people. He does still have that young, puppy energy and will need continued guidance on leash walks. James is very social and wants to greet every dog he sees, but his excitement can sometimes come across more strongly than intended, so he benefits from gentle redirection and continued training.
He is fully potty trained, non-destructive, walks well overall on leash with structure, and truly loves being part of a family. James is wonderful with kids and gets along well with other dogs. He cannot be in a home with cats due to a strong prey drive.
Above all, James is sweet, affectionate, and full of heart. He is the kind of dog who makes people fall in love without even trying, and he would thrive in a loving, active home that will continue his healing journey and give him the stable, joyful life he has always deserved.
Adoption fees for all dogs are $250 and include all essential vaccines, heartworm treatment (if necessary), a microchip, and spay/neuter.
