James – Brave Shepherd Mix Looking for His Forever Home
James is about 8–9 months old and a resilient, affectionate shepherd mix who’s already overcome a lot. He came to us from the Rio Grande Valley after being found alone on a rural road, badly injured and underweight. He had a swollen belly from parasites, an open wound, and severe damage to his left leg and hip—likely from being hit by a car. Even in that condition, James met the world with sweetness and a gentle nature that never faded.
After surgery and a full course of physical therapy, James is happy, active, and thriving. He uses his injured leg less than 30% of the time, but he’s playful, loves being part of a home, and continues to build strength and confidence. We have another orthopedic checkup scheduled in February to see if further intervention is needed. If his mobility doesn’t improve enough, amputation may be considered the kindest option—but for now, he’s doing great, and Rescue PAC will continue to cover all care related to his medical needs.
James is fully potty trained, non-destructive, and walks well on a leash. He gets along with dogs, is great with kids (including a 6-year-old), and sleeps through the night—though he occasionally asks to go out once with our other dog. He’s fully vaccinated and microchipped and will be neutered around 1 year old, which is covered by Rescue PAC. He does chase cats sometimes, but we correct him each time, and we expect that to improve after neutering.
James still has a few playful puppy tendencies, but he’s settling down wonderfully. He’d thrive in an active family who can keep up with his energy, love him for his brave spirit, and give him the safe, happy home he deserves.
